Alistair Brownlee and Kat Matthews both won at IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea during a weekend of swim, bike and run in Swansea which also included British medal success at the first standalone World Triathlon Para Series event to be hosted in Great Britain.
There was also a debut win for GB junior Callum Stedman at a Europe Triathlon Junior Cup event, as well as Scottish national champions crowned at the Scottish National Sprint Distance and Mixed Team Relay Club Championships.
Volvo 2022 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea (6 August)
There was plenty for the home crowds to celebrate at the Volvo 2022 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea with two golds and two silvers won by British paratriathletes as the world’s best paratriathletes descended on the Welsh city.
Commonwealth champions Dave Ellis and his guide Luke Pollard were back on the top step of the podium after winning the men’s PTVI in the first race of the day. Claire Cashmore won another gold in the women’s PTS5 to end a day of British medal success.
Katie Crowhurst – who won Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham – produced a brilliant sprint finish with her guide Grace Hawthorne to secure silver in the women’s PTVI, while George Peasgood won silver in the men’s PTS5.

Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Chisinau (7 August)
It was an international debut to remember for Callum Stedman who won gold at Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Chisinau during his first international junior race representing Great Britain.
Stedman was part of a leading pair out of the water who maintained a small advantage over the rest of the field on the bike leg before again being one of the fastest athletes over the 2.55km run to secure the race win.
IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea (7 August)
Exactly 10 years on from winning gold at London 2012, double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee was celebrating again in a home race after winning the men’s pro race at IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea.
There was a double celebration for the home crowds with Kat Matthews continuing her strong season to date by winning the women’s pro race which saw a clean sweep of British athletes on the podium.
Lydia Dant finished second after passing Ruth Astle on the run to claim silver with Astle completing the podium in third having led on the bike and the early stages of the run before Matthews re-took the race lead and ran to victory.
Tom Bishop joined Brownlee on the men’s podium, crossing the line in third to claim his first medal at an IRONMAN event in a field dominated by British pro triathletes with Liam Lloyd and Harry Palmer also in the top-five.
IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia (7 August)
After multiple medal successes representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team including winning European gold last year, Rosie Weston continued her pro career with a sixth-place finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia.
Weston was part of a lead group of three who exited the swim within a few seconds of each other, before posting personal bests across both the bike and run legs to cross the line sixth.
IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder (6 August)
Holly Lawrence was leading at IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder before stepping to the side to bring her race to a premature end after issues on the run.
Lawrence was second out of the swim and caught the race leader on the bike, before driving the pace at the front of the race. Whilst leading on the run, Lawrence wasn’t able to continue and withdrew from the race soon after the hallway point on the run.
British Triathlon Super Series Swansea (6 August)
The latest event in the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series took place at Volvo 2022 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea with athletes getting the chance to experience the course and cross the blue carpet finish line ahead of the world’s best later in the day.
Welsh paratriathlete Darren Williams was able to celebrate a home victory in the men’s PTWC race, whilst one of the close races of the day came in the men’s PTVI where Ronnie Robinson and his guide Joel Sharman claiming their first Super Series win.
Louise Rolfe was also a first time Super Series winner in the men’s PTS2, in only his second triathlon event, with Shona Brownlee and David Jones earning maximum points in the PTS4 races.
Cheryl Went was the winner in the women’s PTS5, whilst France’s Antoine Leymarie was the first athlete over the line in the men’s race with Tom Barnard collecting the full 10 points as the first British athlete.
Swansea was the final opportunity for athletes to earn points ahead of the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final in Sunderland later this month (20-21 August).
BRITISH TRIATHLON SUPER SERIES
Scottish National Sprint Distance and Mixed Team Relay Club Championships (6 August)
Over 200 age group athletes competed in the Scottish National Sprint Distance Championships at M3 Monikie Triathlon Festival, which also featured the Scottish Mixed Team Relay Club Championships.
The sprint event, which was also a Great Britain Age-Group Team qualifier for the 2023 World Sprint Distance Championships, saw Scottish national champions crowned across the age groups.
The overall men’s race was won by junior athlete Struan Bennet with Katie Lowery the overall race winner in the women’s event.
The Mixed Team Relay Championships saw teams of four compete for national titles.
