Qualification

Registration Information

  • There is only one registration deadline: 5pm Friday 7th June 2024.
  • Only athletes who have qualified for the Sprint Triathlon and Standard Triathlon 2024 World Championships in Malaga may register for the Mixed Team Relay.
  • The Mixed Team Relay is a DRAFT LEGAL Super Sprint race so no TT bikes will be permitted.

Selection Process

There will be 2 key stages for selection: Pre (stage 1) and During (stage 2) the 2024 World Championship in Malaga. To allow for fair ranking and selection no one can self-select their teams.

Stage 1

  1. w/c 10 June 2024: Registered athletes will be split into two separate categories of relay teams.
    1. Sprint athletes and
    2. Standard athletes.
  2. Athletes who gained a PQ from the 2023 World Championship race or the 2023 British Champs race will be provisionally ranked in these categories first depending on these results.
  3. All athletes who gained a Q through the 2023 qualifying races will be provisionally ranked in these categories depending on their overall percentage result when converted into 10-year aged brackets. Athletes with a percentage nearest 100% will be given a Q first.
  4. From this, a provisional pool of athletes will be selected for each 10-year age range. This will allow us to register with World Triathlon the correct number of race entrants; they are not the final teams you race in.

Stage 2

  1. 17 / 19 October 2024: The selection of the final relay teams will be dependent on the athlete’s performance in the Malaga World Championship race. Re-ranking will occur, depending on your performance after these races have taken place.
  2. Once selected, the Team Manager will communicate this through the Team Facebook group and via email. This may mean that athletes don't know who they will be racing with until the day of the event but does ensure that the fastest athletes will be in the same team together.
  3. If an athlete is a DNS, DNF or DSQ they will be ranked after all other athletes in the selected pool according to their qualifying percentages or replaced by a reserve if unable to race in the MTR.

Team Format

  • All teams will consist of 2 athletes from the female category and 2 athletes from the open category (male).
  • Age groups will be the following brackets: 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69. 70-79, 80* and above.
  • Teams will be identified using roman numerals: i, ii, iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii, ix, or x.
  • There is a cap of 10 teams per nation per age group. If there are more than 10 teams per age group, then the Sprint teams will take priority.

Reserve Athletes

  • Reserves only need to pay for their place in the team before the event if they are 1st reserve or are offered a place in a team before the event. This may mean that reserve athletes don't pay their race entry fee until after the event has taken place if they are offered a place at the event.
  • A reserve will be given a place when an athlete withdraws from a team.
  • A standard reserve athlete can be used for a sprint relay team and a sprint reserve athlete can be used for a standard relay team if it allows a team to compete.

Payment for the Mixed Team Relay

  • Provisional athletes with a Q will be given a payment deadline date to confirm their place in the team. If the deadline is not met, they will be withdrawn from the team and the next fastest reserve athlete will be offered a place.
  • If a reserve athlete is asked to race at the event, they will need to pay the race entry fee when they return to the UK within 6 weeks. If the race entry fee is not paid this may affect opportunities in the future to compete in the GB Age Group Team.
  • If not, enough athletes register within an age bracket to create at least one team, registration fees will be refunded to those who have registered.
  • If a reserve who has paid does not race at the event in the Mixed Team Relay, they will receive a full refund of their race entry fee after the event.

Pre-Qualification

There is no Pre-Qualification policy for the Mixed Team Relay.

Allocation of Places

Once selected, the Team Manager will communicate this through the Team Facebook group and via email. This may mean that athletes don't know who they will be racing with until the day of the event but does ensure that the fastest athletes will be in the same team together.
