Sophie Coldwell scored a greatly deserved first ITU World Cup victory in Hungary, and Matt Willis added a junior world title to the ETU Cup gold he won in Holland last weekend. There was a host of youth, junior, age group and long distance racing on another busy weekend as we now start to look forward to the next round of the ITU World Triathlon Series in Hamburg this Saturday and Sunday.
ITU Duathlon World Championships - Fyn, Denmark
It has been a successful start to the 2018 Fyn ITU Multisport World Championships with elite and age group titles galore across the standard and sprint distance events on Friday and Sunday.
Gill Fullen retained her 50-54 title in the Standard Distance Age-Group Championships and Matt Willis made it two winning weekends in a row in the Junior Elite race.
Mark Buckingham fought hard on the run to finish third behind local athlete Andreas Schiling, who won the world title. Georgina Schwiening also finished third.

2018 Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup
Sophie Coldwell achieved her first ITU World Cup win in Hungary as she stormed ahead on the run to take the tape. Coldwell has showed how strong her run is this year when she broke away and lead for 5km at the ITU World Triathlon Leeds, but this time in Tiszaujvaros she made it stick, posting the quickest run of the race.
India Lee stayed with the bunch on the swim and bike but a fast run group broke away with Lee leading the chase pack to finish 12th. In-form Chris Perham wasn’t able to finish as the elite men’s was stopped due to adverse conditions, Sam Dickinson and Jack Willis had also qualified through the final, but didn’t get the opportunity to race.
2018 Tiszaujvaros ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup
Erica Byram finished in ninth with a pack which couldn’t quite keep up the pace of race winner, Beatrice Mallozzi (ITA), who finish with a 31 second lead.
2018 Banyoles ETU Triathlon European YOG Qualifier
Up and coming athletes are eyeing an opportunity to race at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October. Banyoles offered a chance for British athletes to be nominated to Team GB for potential selection. Great Britain put in a hard effort in the Mixed Relay to finish second, Calum Young set the third fastest leg of the race.
Libby Coleman finished seventh in the individual race. Freya Thompson finished in 17th. It was a fast race in the Youth Men’s race with only a minute separating the top 11 athletes, and Calum Young placed 11th.
IRONMAN 70.3 Jonkoping
Kimberley Morrison came into the race after winning IRONMAN 70.3 Finland last weekend. She worked hard to open up a gap on Lisa Norden but the London 2012 Olympic silver medal winner, Norden was stronger in the final kilometres. Morrison finished second.
Super Tri, Youth & Junior Super Series
Round four of the Youth & Junior Super Series took place at the Iconic Olympic Rowing venue of Eton Dorney. Lily Jane Evans Haggerty won the Youth race, which has moved her up to the leader of the youth standing. Hamish Reilly took the Youth Men’s race, which sees him hold onto the top spot in the standings.
In the junior men’s race there was a sprint finish between Fynn Batkin and Oscar Rogers. Batkin edged it to finish two seconds ahead, his first podium in the 2018 series. Winner of the junior women’s race was Annabel Morton, who now moves from second to first in the series standings.
British Age Group Middle Distance Triathlon Championships
The Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle welcomed Age Group for the British Age Group Middle Distance Triathlon Champion. Winners were Sam Wade and Cat Jameson.
2019 ETU Sprint Distance Triathlon Qualifier, Worthing Triathlon
It was the last chance for Age Group athletes to qualify 2019 ETU Sprint Distance Triathlon. Matthew Stratford took the win in the men’s race by over two minutes ahead of Colin Dixon in second. Robert Fryer finished third.
With an incredible bike leg, Laura Starmer took the overall women’s race win, Nicole Patterson-Lett took second and Anne Sydenham took third.
