Paratriathletes lead the way with A Coruna medal haul

Britain’s paratriathletes led the way over the weekend securing six medals, with a further five medals coming across mixed team relay and long distance triathlon.

A seven strong team of paratriathletes took on the 2023 World Triathlon Para Cup A Coruna and returned home with six medals. Claire Cashmore stood on the top step of the podium in the PTS5 category as she finished almost seven minutes clear of Spain’s Andrea Miguelez Ranz. Hannah Moore also claimed gold in the PTS4 category, with Dave Ellis coming home in 00:59:42 to take Britain’s gold medal tally to three in A Coruna. Mel Nicholls added a silver medal to her collection in the women’s PTWC category. There were bronze medals for Joshua Landmann and Louis Rolfe in the men’s PTWC and PTS2 categories respectively. Colin Wallace finished ninth in the PTS4 classification.

In the European Games Mixed Team Relay, the quartet of Barclay Izzard, Sophie Alden, Connor Bentley and Sian Rainsley secured a silver medal. Read how their race unfolded here.

At 2023 Europe Triathlon Premium Cup Holten, Hugo Milner just missed out on a podium spot crossing the line in sixth just four seconds behind third place Daniel Damian in the men’s elite race. Marcus Dey was the next Brit to cross the line in 12th place ahead of Cameron Main (20th), Fynn Batkin (30th), Cameron Harris (31st), Harry Butterworth (39th), Reuben Trotter (41st) and Ben Cumberland (46th). In the women’s elite race, Sophia Green secured a top-ten spot finishing eighth while Lara Atkinson finished 30th.

There was also medal success at Challenge Walchsee as Lucy Buckingham took second place ahead of Lucy Byram who won a bronze medal. In the men’s race, Thomas Bishop came home in 03:43:00 to take second place behind Germany’s Frederic Funk.

In IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra, Emma Pallant-Browne took second place behind Australia’s Ashleigh Gentle, while in the men’s race Matthew Palmer secured a top-ten finish by coming ninth. Elsewhere, Laura Addie finished sixth with a time of 04:44:11 at IRONMAN 70.3 Les Sables D’Olonne.
