Taylor-Brown and Learmonth nominated for Sportswoman of the Year

Following their success over the last 12 months, the two Leeds-based athletes have been named on the shortlist for the prestigious Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.

The end of 2019 saw Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown secure second and third on the overall World Triathlon Series rankings whilst, although severely interrupted, 2020 has also brought the pair success.

Taylor-Brown finished second behind Vicky Holland at the Mooloolaba World Cup back in March before returning from the Covid-19 enforced break by winning the World Championships in Hamburg and coming second at the Karlovy Vary World Cup a week later.

Learmonth’s first competitive swim, bike, run of 2020 came in the form of the Super League Triathlon Arena Games in Rotterdam in which she won all three stages. She teamed up with Taylor-Brown, Barclay Izzard and Alex Yee in Hamburg to win Mixed Relay World Championship bronze before claiming fourth in Karlovy Vary.

The pair are up against jockey Hollie Doyle, cyclist Lizzie Deignan and darts player Fallon Sherrock on the five-woman shortlist, with the winner being chosen by a judging panel that includes Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Dame Kelly Holmes and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill amongst a host of stellar women from the sporting world.

Whilst the Sportswoman of the Year and Disability Sportswoman of the Year awards are decided by the panel, the public are able to vote for the Influencer, Young Inspiration and Vitality Grassroots Sportswoman of the Year awards.
