The ITU World Triathlon Series returns to Canada this time in Edmonton where Sophie Coldwell will be looking to improve on her top 15 finish at this month’s Hamburg Wasser World Triathlon. The race will also see Beth Potter make her World Triathlon Series debut on the back of her win at the Weert ETU Triathlon European Championships in May.
Double Olympic medallist Jonathan Brownlee will be part of a strong men’s field which will see the Brit go up against the likes of Vincent Luis, Javier Gomez and AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds winner Jacob Birtwhistle.
The final Mixed Relay event of this year’s ITU calendar also takes place in Edmonton with the British team looking to improve on last year’s sixth-place finish and compete for qualification points with the event making its debut at next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
Welsh Triathlon National Aquathlon Championships and Welsh Triathlon National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships
This weekend will see a double dose of Welsh National Championship action with the Welsh Triathlon National Aquathlon Championships being hosted by Port Talbot Harriers’ Aberavon Aquathlon on Saturday.
The following day will see the Welsh Triathlon National Middle Distance Triathlon take place with athletes swimming 1.9km before taking on a 90km bike course and a 20km run.
The sixth and latest round of the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series will be held at Hetton Lyons on Saturday with athletes looking to put in strong performances ahead of next month’s British Triathlon Big Weekend at Mallory Park.
This year’s event will retain the same format as of 2018 with the Youth and Junior heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. The day concludes with tag team relay races for Youth & Junior teams (one youth female, one youth male, one junior female, one junior male) along with TriStar 2 and TriStar 3 teams (one TS2 male, one TS2 female, one TS3 male, one TS3 female).
Recce Barclay will be the sole British representative at this weekend’s Ironman Switzerland with athletes taking on a 2.4 mile swim, cycle 112 miles and run 26.2 miles.
