GB Athletes take to Montreal in World Triathlon Championship Series

Published:

This weekend sees the return of the World Triathlon Championship Series as some of the world’s best triathletes compete in Montreal.

The event marks the halfway point in this year’s World Series and sees six British athletes on the start line looking to claim vital ranking points ahead of the World Triathlon Championship Final in Pontevedra this September.

Georgia Taylor-Brown returns to Montreal after securing triathlon Gold in the city last year across the Sprint distance. After a tough start, she will be looking to make it back-to-back World Triathlon Championship Series wins after her first place finish in Cagliari in May.

Joining her on the start line is Beth Potter and Sophie Coldwell. Potter looks to improve on her sixth-place finish in Cagliari after winning the season opener in Abu Dhabi, while Coldwell, who did not race in Italy last time out, comes into the event looking to add to her first and second place performances from Yokohama and Abu Dhabi.

The final Brit on the start line for the Elite women’s race is Kate Waugh. She won the Under 23 2022 World Triathlon Championship Finals Abu Dhabi back in November and recorded a season best fifth place in Yokohama earlier this year.

In the men’s elite race Jonny Brownlee looks to build on his second-place finish at the 2023 Europe Triathlon Championships Madrid, changed to a last-minute duathlon, as he competes in the World Triathlon Championship Series for just the second time this season. Jack Willis is the other British hopeful in the Men’s race. He’s competing in his second World Triathlon Championship Series event of the year after coming 43rd in Yokohama.

You can catch all six British athletes in action live on the BBC Sport Website, Red Button and IPlayer. Coverage of the women’s elite race kicks off at 16:20 on Saturday afternoon and is followed by the men’s elite race from 18:20. The mixed relay race, which will also have British interest, gets underway from 14:50 on Sunday.
