Keeping up with WTS Hamburg & what else is on this weekend

What a weekend for sport, and triathlon will be a major part of it with star athletes racing at the ITU World Series event in Hamburg. There’s also IRONMAN UK on Sunday and the British Age Group Sprint Championships.

ITU World Triathlon Hamburg

It’s a huge fixture in Hamburg with all of the current world title contenders due to line up at the longest-running World Triathlon Series event. Vicky Holland brings exciting form with her, having won the last round in Leeds, and Jonathan Brownlee is in good shape to return to a course where he previously won on in 2013. The racing is over the sprint distance.

Don’t miss coverage at 3:30pm (men) and 5:30pm (women) on the BBC Red Button and online. Sunday’s Mixed Relay will be packaged into the BBC highlights show on Monday at 1pm on BBC2, or you can watch it via triathlonlive.tv with a subscription.

Fyn ITU Multisport World Championships

The multisport world championships continue in Denmark. There’s already been notable successes including world titles for Matt Willis in the junior duathlon and Lesley Patterson in the cross-triathlon. Today it’s the Aquathlon Championships, followed by the Aquabike (3km swim, 121km bike) and the Long Distance Championships on Saturday. BBC Breakfast presenter, Louise Minchin is amongst the Age-Group athletes competing in the Aquabike.

IRONMAN UK

Bolton hosts IRONMAN UK. Due to the wildfires on the moors in Saddleworth, the bike course has been adjusted, reducing the distance by 17 miles for safety reasons. You can read more about this here.  2008 Olympian Will Clarke wants to upgrade from second last year, and Lucy Gossage will be aiming for her fifth IRONMAN UK title.

2018 British Age-Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships

Age Group triathletes will have the opportunity to be named British Triathlon Sprint Distance Champion at the Woodhorn Museum, Ashington on Sunday.
