Steadman and Kelly Secure World Triathlon Para Series Silver

A quartet of Brit’s took on World Triathlon Para Series Montreal as they went in search of vital ranking points ahead of next summer’s Paralympic Games and momentum ahead of next week’s World Triathlon Para Series Swansea.

Lauren Steadman, who was competing for just the second time since winning Paralympic Gold in Tokyo, finished in second place in the PTS5 category. She was in second coming out of the water alongside eventual winner, American Grace Norman and Canada’s Kamylle Frenette. On the bike the lead group was reduced to just Steadman and Norman, with the American pulling away on the run to leave Steadman in second place.

In the PTVI Category Oscar Kelly also came away with a silver medal behind Spain’s Hector Catala Laparra. Kelly was one of the first out of the water before falling behind eventual winner Catala Laparra on the bike. The Brit secured second place with a 5km run time of 00:16:58, the fastest of anyone in the race.

Elsewhere Michael Salisbury couldn’t build on his third-place finish at 2023 Europe Triathlon Championship Madrid, as he finished in eighth place in the PTS5 category. In the PTS4 category Finley Jakes also found himself off the podium in ninth place, despite exiting the swim amongst the front runners.

The paratriathlon action continues next weekend on home soil as World Triathlon Para Series comes to Swansea on Saturday 15 July. The event is free for spectators and gives them the chance to see the world’s best paratriathletes in action, as well as the next generation of British paratriathletes in the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series.
