Super League takes over Jersey & Sarah Lewis on podium in Portugal

Super League Jersey was exciting and well covered by BBC Sport this weekend. It’s an exhilarating addition to the racing calendar. Elsewhere Sarah Lewis made the podium at IRONMAN 70.3 Portugal and Oulton Park hosted ITU Sprint and ETU Standard Duathlon qualifiers.

Super League Jersey

Returning the Channel Island of Jersey, Super League saw global triathlon stars take on two brutal days of triathlon in a format which left no room for weakness. Georgia Taylor-Brown was the highest placed Brit, ranking fourth. Katie Zaferes (USA) came out on top. British women also placed seventh though ITU World Champion Vicky Holland, eighth for Jodie Stimpson, ninth for Sophie Coldwell, and junior Wild Card, Kate Waugh, 17th.

The men’s race was dominated by Vincent Luis (FRA). British men challenged the top spots throughout the weekend. Jonny Brownlee finished fifth overall and could have been higher if it wasn’t for a slow transition during the Enduro race which his rivals capitalised on. Alex Yee finish in 10th and local hero, Ollie Turner 19th.

The Jersey round of Super League was the first of three in the series. The next two take place in Malta (27 Oct) and Mallorca (3 Nov), providing late season racing opportunities and engaging viewing for triathlon fans.

IRONMAN 70.3 Portugal

It was near perfect conditions for the athletes in Portugal, in a race which saw Colin Norris run his way up into fifth after coming out of the water outside of the top ten. David Bishop finished 11th.

In the women’s race, Sarah Lewis started her race off well, coming third out of the water, but she then lost places on the bike. Her run saw her pull back places and finish third.
