Weekend highlights include Europe Triathlon Cup events and British Championships

It’s a weekend which will see British champions crowned in both paratriathlon and aquathlon, while internationally the swim, bike, run action is focused on Tiszaujvaros, Hungary, where there are both Europe Triathlon Premium and Junior Cup events.

Europe Triathlon Premium Cup Tiszaujvaros (16-17 July)

The second Europe Triathlon Premium Cup of 2022 is being held in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary, where there will be more points on offer than the standard Europe Triathlon Cup events.

The event in Hungary follows the Premium Cup racing in Holten two weeks ago, but with a change in format as athletes complete in the semi-finals on Saturday for a place in Sunday’s final.Both days will be over the sprint distance.

Ben Dijkstra was fourth in Holten and will be on the start line again in the men’s race, along with Chris Perham, who also competed in Holten, Hamish Reilly and Jack Stanton-Stock.

Annabel Morton, currently third in the British Senior Super Series, finished 19th in Holten and will be the sole British representative in the women’s race in Tiszaujvaros.

Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Tiszaujvaros (16-17 July)

Three British juniors will also be competing in Tiszaujvaros in the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup.

Bethany Cook will compete in the junior women’s race having recently been part of Great Britain’s U23/Junior mixed relay team which secured world silver in Montreal, as well as a top-10 individual finish at the World Junior Championships.

Nathan Coy and Michael Gar will both make their international debuts for Great Britain in the junior men’s race.

Similar to the Europe Triathlon Premium Cup, athletes will compete over the semi-final and then final format, but they will race over a super sprint distance which will be different for both the semi-finals and final.

For Saturday’s semi-finals, it will be a 500m swim, 12km bike and 3.3km run, then on Sunday for the final it will be a 500m swim, 12.5km bike and 3.6km run.

British Paratriathlon Championships (16 July)

Eton Dorney will once again host the British Paratriathlon Championships where British champions will be crowned and British Triathlon Super Series points will also be on offer.

Over 30 paratriathletes will compete to become British champion in their respective classifications with medals awarded in each category.

The start list includes Tokyo 2020 Paralympians Claire Cashmore and Dave Ellis, guided by Luke Pollard, with a mix of experienced and up-and-coming talent expected to feature.

British Aquathlon Championships (16 July)

The British Aquathlon Championships are also being hosted as part of Arctic One’s Tri and Paratri Festival at Eton Dorney, guaranteeing a day of exciting racing in and around Dorney Lake.

Age group athletes will race for the British title and medals in each age group over the 750m swim and 5km run during the latest opportunity to become British champion in 2022.

Welsh Triathlon Super Series (16 July)

The Welsh Triathlon Super Series has passed the halfway stage in 2022 with the latest event heading to the Pembrokeshire Coast for The Bluestone Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon in Broad Haven.

With the Welsh Triathlon Super Series split across both sprint and standard distance triathlons, it’s back to the standard distance for the event in Broad Haven which is the fourth of the six stages in this year’s Super Series.
