Qualification
To qualify for this event, athletes must supply a race result which meets the qualifying criteria and qualification evidence outlined below.
Athletes should note:
- Championship events will likely be a 1000m open water swim in a river, lake, the sea or a canal.
- Championship swims could be wetsuit or non-wetsuit and athletes should prepare for boh wetsuit and non-wetsuit swims. Click here for British Triathlon and World Triathlon competition rules.
Qualification evidence
Athletes are required to submit performances providing the following information:
- Race name
- Race date
- Athlete finish time
- Winner of age-groups finishing time
- Working link to online results (URL)
Specific Race Result criteria
- Event must have been chip timed.
- Results must be in 5- or 10- year age group bands.
- Events need to have the minimum distances of a 400, 750m or 1km pool or open water swim and a 5km run. Results from longer distances can be considered but you must meet the guideline times in the table below. Pool swim results will be considered at Q3.
- Results need to have a finishing time within 115% of the winner of your age group. If you are moving up an age group in the Championship year, use the time from the winner of the age group you are moving into.
- Results must meet the times listed below for each age group. Times which are slightly outside the time below on one discipline but lower than the other discipline will be considered at the Team Managers discretion.
- Link to Time Percentage Calculator like the one found here.
- Aquathlon and triathlon events are the best types of events to use if they meet the above distance criteria. If a triathlon result is used which is longer than the distances above, the qualification time must still be met in the table below for the 1km swim and the 5km run distance.
- Athletes may submit a split swim and run time from separate events and, should note these results will only be considered after the third round of qualification if there are places remaining in each age group. The times for the separate results will be amalgamated to produce a new average % result, the required 115% must still be met with the combined results.
- If more than one competitor has a result of 100%, the most competitive result will be selected by the team manager. This may be the fastest time or the race with the most competitors in the affected age group depending on the race result used. The Team Managers decision is final.
- If an athlete improves their best performance before a registration deadline and would like to update the result, they can update the result by following the instructions found here and looking for "How do I change the race result I added to qualify for an WT/ET race."
- Please Note: If you are moving up an age group in the championship year, then your qualification will be based on where your finishing time would have placed you in the age-group category you will be racing for in the year you do the qualifying race. Please see point 8.3 in the Terms and Conditions.
Time frame of results that can be used.
- Results must be valid between the following dates: May 2023 to the final registration cut-off date and will be considered in the order below.
