A busy weekend of swim, bike, run at home and abroad

Super League’s Championship Series kicks off in London on Sunday, as well as a weekend of international swim, bike, run action and the bi-annual School Games.

Having hosted a Super League Championship Series race last year and Super League Arena Games events in 2021 and 2022, London once again welcomes athletes for the fast-paced, unique style of racing that is Super League. Read our full preview to find out which Brits are racing.

2022 World Triathlon Para Cup Alhandra

Alhandra, Portugal is the destination for British paratriathletes this weekend. In 2021, Rhys Jones (Male PTVI) claimed bronze alongside his guide Rhys James. The pair will return to the Portuguese town alongside fellow British athlete and guide team and Commonwealth champions, Dave Ellis and Luke Pollard.

Melissa Nicholls (Female PTWC) and Colin Wallace (Male PTWC) will both represent Great Britain in paratriathlon overseas for the first time this weekend. Nicholls has represented ParalympicsGB on the track and made her paratriathlon debut earlier this year in Swansea, finishing fourth.

Michael Salisbury is also returning to Alhandra this weekend in the men’s PTS5 classification. British champion, Salisbury finished fifth in last year’s race.

2022 Europe Triathlon Cup Alhandra

Also taking place in Alhandra is a Europe Triathlon Cup event, where once again, the start lists are packed with British names.

Commonwealth Games mixed relay silver medallists for Wales, Iestyn Harrett and Dom Coy, are back in individual action in Portugal as are Ben Dijkstra and Hamish Reilly who were part of the GB mixed relay team at the European Championships in Munich. James Chantler-Mayne and Jack Stanton Stock will also be pulling on the British trisuit in the men’s race.

In the women’s race, Britain will be represented by Hollie Elliott and Katie Rodda. Elliott finished nineth in the Europe Triathlon U23 Championships in May, while this will be Rodda’s first international race for GB in 2022.

2022 World Triathlon Cup Valencia

The fifth World Triathlon Cup of the year takes place in Valencia this weekend. The sprint distance race in Spain will see the athletes swim a single 750m lap in the marina before four laps of the bike and two laps of the run courses on the surrounding roads and paths around the marina.

Grant Sheldon, Connor Bentley, Iona Miller and Annabel Morton will wear the GB trisuit in the Spanish city where Sian Rainsley took silver last year and Beth Potter gold and Alistair Brownlee silver in 2020.

2022 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Bled

Providing opportunity for development athletes to learn and test themselves against athletes from across Europe, Great Britain will be represented by Ben Cumberland, Oliver Conway, Hugo Jinks, Lawrence Martindale, Thomas Hattee and Michael Gar, and Jessica Turnbull, Hannah Mitchell, Alexandra Palotai-Avella, Megan Hornung, Ellie Van Der Merwe and Olivia Logan in Slovenia.

A 400m swim in Lake Bled will be followed by a two-lap 13km bike leg on the west side of the lake. The single-lap 3.3km run will lead athletes out and back along the north shore of the lake in the shadow of Bled Castle.

2022 World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Duathlon Championships Zofingen

Daniel Soltys is the sole British representative in the elite races in Switzerland, however the GB Age-Group Team will be out in force this weekend. Soltys became world champion in the male 25-29 age group last year and will be looking to make an impact on the elite stage in 2022.

The Swiss city and surrounding area will provide the setting for tough racing in this long distance championship run, bike, run which will challenge participants to a first run of 9.2km, bike leg of 144km and second run leg of 30km.

IRONMAN 70.3 Poznan 2022

Poznan, Poland will host IRONMAN 70.3 action this weekend with British athletes Thomas Davis and Will Munday, Francesca Sanjana, Rosie Weston and Susie Cheetham named on the start list.

An opening 1.9km swim in Lake Kierskie will be followed by the bike leg which will see a split transition in operation. Having started by the lake, athletes will finish at Poznan International Fair. The four-lap run course will lead competitors towards Poznan city centre and back to the fair before finishing back near transition.

Age-Group Team Qualifiers

Providing opportunities for members of British Triathlon Home Nations to represented Great Britain internationally, this weekend will see three qualification races for 2023 championships take place.

A 2023 World Championship Sprint Triathlon and 2023 European Championship Middle Distance Duathlon Qualifier at Box End Triathlon and a 2023 World Championship Standard Triathlon Qualifier at Shropshire Triathlon.

Welsh National Standard Distance Triathlon Championships

Welsh Triathlon members will have the chance to be crowned national champions in Bala this weekend in the final triathlon championships on the Welsh calendar for 2022. The Bala Standard Triathlon will also host the latest and penultimate stage of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series.
