Brits see gold, silver and bronze in world, European and IRONMAN competition.
AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Leeds
Elite paratriathlon kickstarted a bumper weekend of multisport at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Leeds. Hosting a World Triathlon Para Series event for the first time on British soil, Dave Ellis surged to gold, guided by Luke Pollard, Lauren Steadman and Claire Cashmore achieved a one-two podium, Michael Taylor took home silver and Alison Peasgood secured bronze, guided by Nikki Bartlett.
More medals came in for British athletes in Sunday’s World Triathlon Championship Series race as Alex Yee won his first gold medal in the Championship Series. This was accompanied by stellar performances in the women’s race that saw Jess Learmonth and Sophie Coldwell both on the podium after finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
2021 Europe Triathlon Cup Dnipro
Away from home, British athletes travelled to Ukraine in search of European Triathlon Cup medals. Harry Leleu and Cameron Main both shared the podium with Azerbaijan triathlon, Rostislav Pevtsov, who was crowned the race winner. Leleu and Main ran across the finish line seconds after Pevtsov to take silver and bronze respectively. Jimmy Kershaw achieved a 17th place finish to round out the day in Dnipro for the British men.
Despite being the only British athlete in the women’s race in Ukraine, Sophia Green was yet again awarded with bronze after finishing over a minute ahead of Italy’s Bianca Seregni to finish 3rd. Green recently took home bronze at the Sospan Sprint Triathlon Llanelli where she raced alongside the like of Olympic medallist, Vicky Holland.
Britain’s sole representative in the in the Asia-Pacific Championship at Cairns, Australia, Sarah Thomas achieved a top ten finish after crossing the line in 10:16:07 to take 9th place.
Age group athletes also competed at various IRONMAN events at Hawaii, South Africa, Virginia and Queensland.
