British athletes were in fine form as they came away with 11 medals across various distances, with medals being secured at World Triathlon Para Series Swansea, World Triathlon Para Cup Long Beach, World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championship Hamburg and IRON 70.3 Swansea.

The paratriathlon team led the way with seven medals across two different events this weekend at home and abroad.

At 2023 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea, Dave Ellis guided by Luke Pollard and Oscar Kelly guided by Charlie Harding secured a British 1-2 in the men’s PTVI race as Kelly held off France’s Thibaut Rigaudeau to cross the line behind teammate Ellis.

In the women’s PTWC race, Mel Nicholls secured a bronze medal while in the PTS4 race Hannah Moore crossed the line behind American Emma Meyers to earn a silver medal. There were two more medals left for British athletes to secure with Claire Cashmore and Lauren Steadman coming second and third respectively in the PTS5 category.

Off the podium in the PTWC men’s race, Josh Landmann and Bret Crossley came across the line in sixth and seventh respectively, while in the PTS2 men’s race Louis Rolfe secured tenth place with Brett Daughtrey finishing 12th.

There were top-ten finishes for both Finley Jakes (sixth) and Michael Taylor (nineth) in the PTS4 men’s race, while Henry Urand secured eighth on his World Triathlon Para Series debut in the PTS3 category.

In America, Michael Salisbury added a bronze medal to the Swansea success in the men’s PTS5 race at 2023 World Triathlon Para Cup Long Beach. Rhys Jones, guided by Rhys James, was also in action at Long Beach and was comfortable in the top ten of the PTVI category as he finished fifth.

Beth Potter and Alex Yee secured silver and bronze respectively at 2023 World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships Hamburg. Potter came through the early rounds to reach the final and had to out sprint home favourite Laura Lindemann to hold onto second place behind Cassandre Beaugrand of France.

Yee was in a sprint finish of his own but was just beaten by Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca with Hayden Wilde pipping the pair by just two seconds. The British duo of Connor Bentley and Jack Willis missed out on a place in the men’s final as they dropped out in the repechage. Mixed team relay was also a part of the action out in Hamburg with a team of Bentley, Willis, Potter and Sophie Coldwell coming 14th.

Britain’s juniors were also competing out in Germany. In the junior men’s race Brandon Pye was the first Brit over the line in 13th with Oliver Mills and Solomon Okrafo-Smart finishing 18th and 32nd respectively.

In the junior women’s race, Isla Hedley led the Brit’s over the line in 26th ahead of Beth Cook who came 30th. The final Brit on the start line Olivia Logan recorded a DNF.  Pye and Hedley then joined Hamish Reilly and Tilly Anema in the mixed team relay and the quartet came home in sixth place.

Back in Swansea the medal success continued at IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea. Emma Pallant-Browne recorded the fastest run time by almost five minutes to secure gold ahead of fellow Brit Nikki Bartlett. Lizzie Rayner was just off the podium in fourth ahead of Rebecca Anderbury (fifth), Megan McDonald (sixth) and Brooke Gillies (seventh).

In the men’s race, Andrew Horsfall-Turner was the highest placed Brit in fourth and was joined by Harry Palmer (fifth) and Liam Lloyd (sixth) across the line. Further back it was another trio of Brit’s across the line together as Benjamin Goodfellow secured tenth ahead of Will Munday (11th) and Brett Halliwell (12th). Thomas Davis dropped out on the bike after exiting the water as part of the front pack.
