What is club discount?

British Triathlon offers a discounted price on Core and Ultimate adult membership packages for individuals who are also members of an affiliated club as we recognise members’ involvement in their local club and community.

I am 90 years old, why do I have to call to purchase a membership?

Unfortunately people who are 90 and over aren't eligible to be covered under our personal accident insurance cover which is included in our Core and Ultimate membership products and therefore we must manually process memberships for those that are 90 or over and wishing to purchase a Core or Ultimate membership. We can then manually enable membership to be purchased and we can also explain that members 85 and over aren't covered under the personal accident benefit. 

I am taking part in a sportive or running race, am I covered by British Triathlon membership insurance to do this as part of my training?

British Triathlon recognises that participation in single discipline competitions can comprise training for triathlon or multisport. However as these events are conducted in competitive environments that are not permitted by British Triathlon we cannot guarantee the safety of the events and therefore British Triathlon membership insurance cover does not extend to cover participation in single discipline competitions or events such as sportives. Members should seek to get insurance from the relevant governing body putting on the event under any day licence scheme they operate.

I am a BTF member but live in Northern Ireland, am I covered by BTF membership insurance?

British Triathlon Federation is the governing body for England, Scotland and Wales. Triathlon Ireland is the governing body that covers Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland nationals residing permanently in Northern Ireland are eligible to purchase British Triathlon membership but for insurances purposes are classed as overseas members. Ultimate Membership packages provide public liability insurance and personal accident cover for training and racing worldwide*. Members living abroad, including in Northern Ireland, would be required to purchase an Ultimate membership package and must not remain overseas for more than 6 consecutive months and remain a UK national for membership insurance to cover them.

What is a Supporter membership?

Supporter membership is to help British Triathlon grow the sport. Through buying Supporter Membership you can help us achieve so much including:

  • Campaign for investment into grassroots triathlon
  • Support triathlon clubs to grow and develop
  • Deliver British Triathlon's Clean Sport programme
  • Raise the profile of triathlon
  • Implement safe operating practices for over 1200 permitted events every year
  • Provide world class events for members and participants
  • Support Home Nation athletes at the Commonwealth Games

 

Does a Supporter membership include a Race Licence?

No, Supporter membership does not include any insurance or race licence. Supporter membership is aimed at non-racing members of the swim, bike, run community. If you enter any races using a Supporter Membership number you will not be insured.

 

Do I receive a membership card?

British Triathlon have stopped sending out plastic membership cards to members as part of a phased approach to reduce the impact of the membership pack and therefore Supporter members do not get a card in the post. Instead, Supporters can access a digital membership card in their member area. This change came into place from 1 June 2020 and is one of the initial steps that has been taken to be more environmentally responsible.

 

Why can I only purchase a Support membership on direct debit?

We have launched Supporter Membership on a 6 month pilot and want to make this membership as simple as possible so that we can test the success of the membership easily, so we have decided not to overcomplicate it and are therefore just offering one payment option. Direct debit is the most popular payment option across our membership types so we have chosen this type plus it is much simpler for members when renewing as there's no need to do anything, we will sort it all out for you. 

 

Does a Supporter member get a vote at the AGM?

Supporter membership does not warrant Supporter members with voting rights at the AGM for their Home Nation. To be able to obtain a vote at the AGM you will need to upgrade your membership to at least an Essential membership.

Can I set up a family membership?

 British Triathlon do not offer a family membership package. To best cater for individuals in their swim, bike, run journey; individuals need to have their own membership package. I would like to race abroad will my membership cover me?

If your membership package includes a race licence (Core and Ultimate packages), your licence is endorsed by British Triathlon for the purpose of competing in National and International competitions which means you may not have to pay the event organiser a Race Pass fee. Certainly for Europe Triathlon and World Triathlon Age-Group Championships it does. You may also be covered for some elements under our insurance policy depending on your membership package, full detail about what insurance is included can be found here

Our Ultimate membership package provides the most comprehensive Public Liability and Personal Accident cover for racing and training abroad, to read more about what races and training you are covered for under the Ultimate membership please read the below list of event organisers:

World Triathlon, Europe Triathlon, ASTC, ATU, OTU and CAMTRI events (as listed on the World Triathlon events search - https://www.triathlon.org/events), Triathlon Ireland (as listed on the Triathlon Ireland events search - https://www.triathlonireland.com/Events/Race-Calendar/), Challenge Family, IRONMAN, Powerman, Xterra, Xtri, Castle Race Series and Super League Triathlon sanctioned events.

However, we do strongly recommend that you have adequate travel insurance that provides cover for racing abroad, including medical expenses and treatment, repatriation and cancellation/curtailment cover. You can read more about cover for racing abroad here.

Can I join and pay annually by Direct Debit and how do I update my details?

Can I pay by direct debit?

You are able to join and make payment for membership by direct debit. Qualifying first year members are able to receive a discount of 5% for paying by direct debit.

 

How do I update my direct debit details?

You can do this through your member’s account area here or you can call or email the British Triathlon Membership Team. 

 

How will I know if my direct debit has failed?

If there has been a problem with your direct debit we will notify you by email. You will then need to make the payment for your membership using a different payment method. This can be done by visiting your member’s account here. Alternatively, please call British Triathlon Membership Services on 01509 837137 and we can process the payment over the phone.

 

How do I cancel my direct debit?

You can do this through logging into your member’s account area here, or you can call or email the British Triathlon Membership Team. 

 

How do I renew?

If you have a direct debit set up already your membership will automatically renew each year. We will send you an email notifying you of the amount that will be debited from your nominated account 10 days before the payment is to be taken.

To renew by card you need to login to your member’s account hereOnce logged in, if you are are due for renewal you will see a red banner saying 'renew now'. When you click on this banner you will be taken through to the renewal page.
